In my district a landslide, a slow-moving landslide, has destroyed 137 homes. The landslide moves a few inches a day, but over the course of the last year people's homes have been moved as much as 200 to 300 feet down a hill and completely destroyed. We are speaking today of a bill that is designed to reduce the cost of disasters by preventing them, and I strongly support that. Clearly, a dollar saved in prevention can save us $3 down the road in recovery.
