Jay Nixon: “We believe that those people deserve notification first, not by the governor talking on CNN.”

This is not the silence the people of Ferguson or this region or others but to contain those who were drowning out the voice of the people with their actions. We will not allow a handful of looters to endanger the rest of this community.

While none of us know what that will be, our shared hope and expectation is that regardless of the decision, people on all sides show tolerance, mutual respect and restraint.

Vigorous prosecution must now be pursued. The democratically-elected St. Louis prosecutor and the Attorney General of the United States each have a job to do. Their obligation to achieve justice in the shooting death of Michael Brown must…
