Today, we will finally have the opportunity to eradicate the biggest cancer on the federal campaign finance system--soft money. Shays-Meehan will go a long way in reducing the disproportionate and undue influence of unregulated and unlimited soft money. We should pass this common-sense reform legislation to restore people's trust in the system and give the American people a bigger voice in their government. Mr. Chairman, let's get real honest for a minute! The truth is that both political parties are addicted to soft money, and campaign finance reform gives both parties heartburn.
