“This administration has had 8 years to deal with this issue and what they have given senior citizens most are these threatening letters. I mean, hundreds of thousands of seniors have received these threatening letters from our own FDA. That is not the way to deal with this issue. ... the real problem for seniors is price, when we have drugs like Prilosec, for example, that sells for over $100 here in the United States, sells for about $56 in Canada, the same drug sells in Mexico for about $17.50, the average price in Europe for the same drug is about $39.25, the problem is that over the last 4 years, prescription drug prices have gone up by about 60 percent. When we look into the eyes of some of the seniors at our town hall meetings and they say, I can afford the price of prescription drugs today, now; it is not easy, but when we look at how much they are going up every year, I do not know if I will be able to afford them in another 2 years.”
