It was paid for by the taxpayers. Originally, as it was developed, the drug was called Warfarin. They are basically identical drugs, but Warfarin is used as a rat poison. It is a blood thinner. What they do is they give it to rats, rats will eat it, they go back to their little dens, they bleed to death internally, no mess, no fuss. It kills rats. They found that this made a great blood thinner for human beings as well. Let me give you the differences in what Americans pay. The average price for this package of Coumadin in the United States is about $84.
