On the recordSeptember 29, 1997
We are saying that, as a result of the American taxpayer picking up the tab for the 1996 election, the American taxpayer spent $20 million that the Teamsters organization did not have to spend itself. I do not know what they did with that money, where that money went. But I think it is a question that is worth asking. Just as a side note to this, not only did the American taxpayer pay for the Teamsters election in the U.S., now think about this, the American taxpayer paid for the printing of ballots, paid for the counting of ballots in Canada. We paid to run the private internal organization of the Teamsters not only in the U.S., but also in Canada. Unbelievable.
