The national instant criminal background check system clearly prohibits such action by the FBI. The centralization and retention of firearms transaction information and records on firearm owners would create a de facto system of firearms registration which has clearly not intended by the Brady Act or any other provision of federal law. In fact it was specifically prohibited.
