It's imperative that this spending be approved--not only the money required for military operations but the smaller, more controversial, amount for reconstruction aid. What's important is not the precise number but the underlying premise: that reconstruction is in the best interests of both the United States and Iraq. This may play well back home, but it's the wrong way to go.
