I just want to start with reviewing the bidding and why we are here. We are having an American cultural conversation about the role of ICE and law enforcement--Federal law enforcement--in our streets and in our cities and particularly because two Americans were killed in Minnesota because of ICE, CBP: Alex Pretti, 37 years old, a nurse in a VA hospital, shot multiple times, killed while exercising his right to assemble. Video shows it. So that no matter where you are in the political spectrum, your eyes do not lie. Renee Good--shot and killed by ICE agents in her car on January 7-- and a third American citizen killed by Homeland Security agents, the first being Keith Porter, who was killed on New Year's Eve in L.A. That is not counting the 32 people who have been killed in ICE's custody in 2025, including one in Baldwin, MI--the most fatalities in 1 year than in more than two decades combined. These three people should be alive, but their deaths are the culmination of something much bigger. The behavior of our Federal forces in our streets strikes at the heart of who we are as Americans.
