“My good friend and fellow Senator from Michigan is correct; the Emerald Ash Borer has the ability to destroy our nation's urban forests. The threat is so great that the Departments of Agriculture for Indiana and Ohio as well as the Province of Ontario, all of which border Michigan, have published warnings about the Ash Borer even though it is not known to have spread from Michigan, yet. Currently, an Interagency Invasive Species Task Force including the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Michigan State University, Michigan Technological University, and the Michigan Department of Agriculture is working to analyze this problem. As such the task force has placed a quarantine on 13 counties in southeastern Michigan.”
