The fundamental civil rights of American citizens are more than just a social issue.

This legislation, I hope, will end the needless discrimination so many Americans face in our immigration system.

If we are going to act on this issue, we have to do so without delay.

We cannot allow vast areas to be exploited by al-Qa'ida and these extremist forces, because it will be to our peril.
