The sponsors of these ads would have us believe that they are performing a public service by running these ads, and do not intend for them to affect the outcome of federal elections. They claim that because they do not use words like 'vote for', or 'vote against', they are exempt from federal campaign finance laws. They even argue that no one has the right simply to know who is sponsoring the ads.”
