“the budget resolution passed by the conference committee is an indictment on the lack of resolve on the part of Congress to seriously address fiscal problems hampering our economy. It is an unfortunate testament to the fact that this institution is satisfied with the status quo--with high deficits, a rising national debt, and continued deficit spending that stunt economic growth and inhibit job creation. I am dismayed that we in this body could not take advantage of the many opportunities placed before us over the last year to confront these problems. These are resources that could be used to reinvest in the economy but instead are devoted to paying for government borrowing.…”
