On the recordFebruary 2, 1994
I am extremely pleased that the Senate Labor and Human Resources Committee has agreed to include language on health and physical education under the Goal 3 objectives of the Goals 2000: Educate America Act. As you know, when the Senate was expected to consider the Goals 2000 legislation in the fall of last year, I was prepared to offer an amendment that would have strengthened the legislation's language with respect to the importance of health education. I am glad that the committee's members have agreed with me that health and physical education are areas that must be addressed if children are to learn and States are able to meet the national education goals.
