On the recordJune 27, 2013
Mr. Speaker, on Tuesday, June 25, our colleague, Ed Markey, was elected to the United States Senate. Mr. Speaker, from the Adams family to the Kennedy family, Massachusetts has sent great talent to the United States Senate, and always a reminder that John Kennedy served in this House and thought it was a privilege before he went to the United States Senate. I also will just say a couple of personal things about our colleague. Nobody ever walked away from Ed Markey and said he didn't know what he was talking about or that he was uninformed. He engages the debate fully. And I must tell you, having known him for more than three decades, he is fulfilling a personal ambition--in addition to which he has promised me that he will take the humility of this institution and bring it to the United States Senate. The last point that I think is very important and a reminder to all of us, in the polling data that led up to Ed's victory, by 15 points the people said they thought it was his experience that would serve him well. That was the deciding factor in why they sent him to the United States Senate. A round of applause for our friend, Ed Markey. ____________________
