On the recordFebruary 15, 2000
I believe that this adjustment enjoys bipartisan support, and it is also supported by the administration. I am in receipt of a letter from the administration stating that the administration supports the amendment to be offered by the gentleman from Texas (Mr. Hall) and the gentleman from Oregon (Mr. Wu) that would increase authorizations for FY 2001 for the National Science Foundation to the administration's budget request. A few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to travel throughout my district with the gentleman from Wisconsin (Chairman Sensenbrenner). We visited research universities, including Oregon Health Sciences University, Portland State University, and several high-tech companies where we were able to see firsthand the benefit of NSF grants.
