let me say, very quickly, that John Bryson brings to this role the special qualities of somebody who has served as the chairman and CEO of one of the Nation's largest utility companies for almost 20 years, being the chairman and CEO of Edison International. He has been a board member for nonprofit organizations as well as for major corporations in our country: Boeing, Disney, some of the great success stories of our country. He has extensive experience working on international issues through his work at Edison International and as chair of the Pacific Council on International Policy. I am convinced that if he is confirmed as Secretary of Commerce today, he is going to focus on increasing American exports, and he will be a superb ambassador, helping American companies that are looking to expand across the globe. This is a person who has already proven his ability to be able to deal with people in other countries, with other companies, and I am confident about his ability to perform this task. His previous experience has exposed him to the importance of innovation and technology at a vital time for the information economy. His Department is now leading the administration in its efforts on issues ranging from privacy to spectrum reform. I am confident he is the right person to help make that process work.…
