“there is another crisis coming too, and that is the cost of home heating fuel in the Northeast and in the Midwest that is going to strike particularly the elderly. As we know, gas is about $3 a gallon, and the utilities are now predicting that families could pay as much as 70 percent more in terms of their heating bill. The Energy Department predicts that the cost of natural gas is going to go up by some $350 next season. At the same time that that is happening, we hear that Big Oil has done rather well. For example, Exxon-Mobile recently reported that its profits in this past quarter, the third quarter, increased 75 percent.”
