Barney Frank: Now, I know one of the things we are trying to do is to instruct the people of Iraq, to help the people of Iraq…

On the recordJuly 9, 2004
Now, I know one of the things we are trying to do is to instruct the people of Iraq, to help the people of Iraq understand democracy. We want them to be open. We want them to fully engage debate, not to suppress dissension. And the only thing I can say is this, Mr. Speaker, and I know we are not supposed to address the television audience, so I address this to you. I hope you will convey to any Iraqis who might be watching the proceedings of this House on television with regard to democracy, if they see what we are doing, please do not try this at home.
