I rise today as Americans celebrate National Rural Health Day. According to the Virginia Department of Health, 88 percent of Virginia is rural, including much of Virginia's Ninth District. As a result, communities face numerous barriers in the rural areas to receive adequate access and opportunities for healthcare. Our rural healthcare providers do our country and our healthcare system a tremendous service, tending to the healthcare needs of rural communities. I am committed to working to improve rural healthcare access in my time here in Congress. Today, let all of us honor the profound contributions of these healthcare providers. I thank the doctors, nurses, advocates, and others who strive to make rural healthcare a possibility in America and to make America a truly healthy America in all regions.
