as a parent of two small children, I have been told that children pay more attention to what their parents do than what we say. Tonight, I hope the American people will use that commonsense principle in judging Congress. It is not what we say in our speeches that counts so much, but far more important to the American people is what we do. What has this Congress, what has this House done today? Basically, the Republican leadership has denied the minority an opportunity to present an amendment that would have added $275 million desperately needed in veterans health care. These particular dollars were focused to try to help those veterans who have such critical health care problems that they need specialist care. This $275 million was designed so that veterans who fought for our country so valiantly, so patriotically would not have to wait 6 months for a heart specialist or for some sort of very, very important care. I would imagine Republicans and Democrats alike on Veterans Day back home go make that speech, that it is wrong for veterans to have to wait 6 months to get the care that they have earned and even fought for, even been wounded to earn.
