This circus of unvetted, secret accusations put at risk the critical role whistleblowers play in holding the powerful accountable.

I take no back seat to that, nor do I have any reason to take any suggestion that my Democratic colleagues do not stand against discrimination in any form.

I view this hearing as probably one of the most important hearings in my lifetime dealing with the absolute question of the survival of the Constitution.

It is essential that our legislation provide that local governments can step forward.
