I also serve on the Committee on Economic and Educational Opportunities. It was my first choice. For 4 years in the House and for 4 rac{1}{2} years as a Senate staffer, my first focus was children and family issues. I have a deeply held conviction of the importance of education in the system, and I get tired of hearing we do not care about public schools. My kids have gone through public schools, I went through public schools, my wife went through public schools, and that is an important issue to us. But I am also on the Committee on Government Reform and Oversight, and we have also seen a perversion of our political process.
