I would like to issue my support for H.R. 10, the Financial Services Act of 1999. This legislation will allow citizens more control of their own money, not Washington bureaucrats. H.R. 10 enhances competition in the banking and financial service markets. As the law stands today, the financial sector has to comply with regulations set up after the Great Depression. This has to change. The Financial Services Act will allow American companies to enter the new millennium on an equal standing with financial businesses around the world. The Financial Services Act will benefit each individual who uses a financial institute. Increasing free trade inside the financial sector ensures higher quality services and lower prices. The government is already far too involved in the lives of private citizens. This legislation will increase choices and services for the American people. Mr. Speaker, the Financial Services Act will ensure that American companies continue to lead the world in the financial sector. I urge my colleagues to support its passage.
