“The bottom line is this. Many of us feel like we are spending $283 million and that is excessive. We want to help the indigent, everybody does, but we believe there should be more accountability. Even though Congress passed, a couple of years ago, some rules regarding LSC, in the last 2 years there have been violations of those rules. All we want to do is make sure there is accountability. The bottom line is this, that those records are there. If we could get them from the local LSC instead of going through the paperwork at the national level, we think it would be easier to make sure there is accountability and there are no abuses. We are not asking for anything but more accountability. It is just that simple. The records are there. I do not think it is going to cost anymore than it does already.”
