yesterday the people in the Sixth District of Oklahoma elected a Republican to represent them in Congress in a district that has a heavy Democrat registration. I wonder if the Democratic leadership in this House has any idea what the issues were in that race. Well, let me tell my colleagues: The Democrat ran from the Clinton record, but not fast enough. The Republican ran toward his party's message of less taxes, less spending, and less government. The Republican signed the taxpayer protection pledge. The Democrat equivocated. The Republican came out against higher health care taxes. The Democrat equivocated. Madam Speaker, the American people listened in Oklahoma. They listened, and they demanded better and wiser, and they chose the Republican.
