This is a crisis our rural communities cannot afford to get worse. To help address these challenges, we must plan for the long-term and invest in training the next generation of health care professionals.

Rural Illinoisans were already dealing with extreme barriers to care, between a shortage of health care professionals and too many having to travel hours to the nearest hospital when mere minutes can mean life or death in an emergency.

When public transportation is accessible, everyone benefits.

This is not leadership—this is sabotage of public health. And it must end, immediately.
