And now what we have is record deficits and record debt, all because we followed an economic strategy that threw out the book of putting our fiscal house in order, investing in the priorities of tax cuts for middle-class families, and investing in the areas of education and health care. What do we have to show for it? We have $500 billion in annual deficit. We have a record deficit while the economy is growing. You all have said if the economy grows, the deficit will disappear. Well, the economy is growing and we have record deficits. Why?”
