Ray LaHood: “I urge Congress to pass this legislation this year.”

The reason that California wants high-speed rail is because the Governor wanted it. A Republican Governor, Governor Schwarzenegger, started that program.

I do think that there can be new rules and regulations. And I think while we were at DOT, we promulgated some very strong rules and regulations regarding rail safety.

We cannot afford not to do it.

It's not uncommon to have a crash in an area where there are residents.
