On Saturday, April 25, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake hit Nepal--the most powerful earthquake in the region in nearly a century. Estimates are that 5,000 people have perished and that thousands more are injured or are missing. This week, here in Washington, the House Democracy Partnership is hosting a multilateral conference, which includes a delegation of parliamentary staff from Nepal. On behalf of Congressman Price, who leads the House Democracy Partnership with me, and Congressman Crenshaw and Congressman Polis, who chair the Congressional Nepal Caucus, we wish to extend the condolences of the House to the people of Nepal and pledge our continued support and cooperation as they embark on the long road of rebuilding and recovery. Mr. Speaker, I ask that Members of the House now rise and observe a moment of silence in solidarity with the people of Nepal. ____________________
