On the recordJune 8, 1994
today I rise to announce the introduction of a House resolution which will end the current wave of hypocrisy advanced by some Members on the other side of the aisle concerning the ethics of one party over another. The resolution I introduce today will amend House rules to require that any Member of the House who is a chairman or ranking minority party member of a committee or subcommittee, and currently under indictment for a felony, must temporarily step aside from that post unless and until the charges are dismissed or reduced to less than a felony. Adoption of this resolution will end the hypocrisy of some decrying the supposed ethical shortcomings of one party, while guarding their own ethical loophole. The American people must know that the two parties in Congress have different standards of conduct. This resolution will end the double standard.
