CBP conducts significant analysis when it comes to setting port of entry hours, which includes traffic trends, staffing availability, and the presence of other ports of entry within a reasonable distance. CBP also considers the economic ramifications of what a closure might have on local communities. Altering port of entry hours is not a decision made lightly. Removing CBP's discretion to limit hours for these ports of entry sets a bad precedent that fails to allow for the consideration of other compelling national and local threats that CBP must consider. Unfortunately, this is just another example of an overly restrictive policy that unnecessarily ties the administration's hands when working to protect the American people. I must respectfully oppose this amendment. Mr. Chair, I yield back the balance of my time. The Acting CHAIR. The question is on the amendment offered by the gentleman from North Dakota (Mr. Armstrong). The amendment was agreed to. The Acting CHAIR. The Chair understands that amendment No. 2 will not be offered. Amendment No. 4 Offered by Mr. Biggs The Acting CHAIR. It is now in order to consider amendment No. 4 printed in part C of House Report 118-559.
