we have had some good news since July. We have seen 286,000 new jobs created as a result of the Jobs and Economic Growth Act that was signed into law in May. That is good news; and really, this legislation we have before us today is another step in our effort to continue growing this economy and creating jobs, because one of the most important factors that affects the investment and the creation of jobs is certainty; and when a tax provision expires and there is doubt, uncertainty about whether that tax provision is going to be extended, those who invest, business and others, hold back and that affects our economy. Passage of this legislation, with bipartisan support, is very important as we work to continue growing our economy. There are several very important economic growth provisions in this legislation that will be extended for another year, a 12-month extension, legislation that provides a tax incentive to clean up brownfields, abandoned industrial sites that require some environmental cleanup.
