Is this the most important debate in American history? It may be, because what is at stake in this debate is not the amount of money that is being spent in a campaign, it is really not about the conduct of campaigns, it really doesn't have much to do with political action committees or labor unions or corporations or associations. What is at stake in this debate is the future of this democracy. If that sounds hyperbolic, let me tell you why I say it. The clearest indication of that loss of interest is their participation in elections.
