“I come before you today to urge your continued support for the War on Terror. While there has been spirited debate in this Chamber during the past two days, the stakes are too high for us not to meet the obligations and responsibilities at hand. We embarked on the most ambitious reorganization of our federal government in more than 50 years, establishing a Department of Homeland Security, whose core mission is to prevent terrorist attacks against America. Now, we must approach the reconstruction of Iraq and Afghanistan with the same vigor with which we undertook the defense of our homeland.”
