He wanted Zelenskyy to be an accomplice in dirtying up Joe Biden, who he feared as an opponent.
Donald Trump doesn't believe in rules and laws and norms or institutions. He doesn't believe them domestically. He doesn't believe in them internationally and he has defied them to get to this point and back to the presidency.
There's no doubt about that. But I also want to say this. You know, all presidents sort of feed off of perceptions of the person who came before and they want to position against what people found lacking in the person that came before.
Unless the economy and his numbers rebound, Republicans are going to feel less willing to follow him blindly.
