I rise in support of the Bishop amendment. I do so because I have basically been taught that the true mark of statesmanship is to seek common ground and find it, and then proliferate it and show it so that others can see it. I believe that that is exactly what the Bishop amendment attempts to do. It attempts to put in broad perspective the freedoms that we have in this country to worship as each individual determines. The only thing that I have heard today that actually would do that would be the Bishop amendment. I would urge my colleagues, those who are in favor, those who are against the main idea, to look at the Bishop amendment as a way of providing something for everybody in America relative to religious freedom.
