As the last Ph.D. scientist in Congress, I am afraid I've served a sort of a lightning rod for many of these warnings and I take them very seriously.
With that, I'd like to yield my remaining time to my colleague and neighbor from Illinois, Dr. Foster, who was very interested in this topic and helped to organize today's hearing.
Thank you, Chairwoman Comstock. Thank you for calling this hearing. And one other thing, can you fix the Metro for us?
I believe that research and development are critical to meeting the future transportation demands of our Nation.
We have to find ways to move people and freight more efficiently and more safely.
But the answer will not simply be building more and bigger, because it is not clear that we will have the funding, the popular support, or the land to do that.
With the U.S. population predicted to increase by nearly 30 percent by 2050, we have to find ways to move people and freight more efficiently and more safely.
When it works, everyone's happy, but when it doesn't, the results can range from annoying to catastrophic.
I do agree with Mr. Rohrabacher, except for I do believe in global climate change.
