We do not weep for him today because of the prestige attached to his name or his office.
On this day, we commemorate a tragedy that befell our people, but we also remember that with every tragedy comes the chance of renewal.
Individual faults and frailties are no excuse to give in and no exemption from the common obligation to give of ourselves.
With his passing, an important chapter in our American story has come to an end.
