More from Barack Obama
Some of you know when I was growing up, I didn't have a father in the house. But I did have people around me, stepfather, grandparents, teachers, coaches and most of all my mother, who tried to teach me the difference between right and wrong, who showed me what it meant to be honest and responsible to work hard, to treat other people the way I wanted to be treated.
And one of the most disturbing things about this election and about Trump's rise in politics is how we seem to have set the values we were taught aside, how we seem to disregard them, how we pretend they don't matter.
You have in Donald Trump, somebody who consistently shown disregard to people who are not like him.
I am the president of all Americans, including those who did not vote for me. I have to consider what’s best for them, even the ones who don’t like me.
