More from Barack Obama
I am more troubled by the idea that a White House can say to law firms, 'If you represent parties that we don't like, we're going to pull all our business or bar you from representing people effectively.'
Those are all topics that we have to be able to discuss honestly and forthrightly, while we still insist that in that process of debate, we respect other people's right to say things that we profoundly disagree with.
And we’re going to do it in a temporary basis because we’re keeping our eye on where we want to be long term.
That then makes them more interested in appeals by folks who say, 'The reason you don't feel respected is because women have been doing this, or this group has been doing that.' And that is not a healthy place to be.
