I, as all my colleagues know, do not like Fast Track, I do not like free trade. But I like less the idea of weakening this President in this time of great national emergency. For that reason, this time, this once, I am voting yes.

You cannot throw money at the problem, and we do not need to be investing government dollars where the private sector is going to invest its own dollars.
It is concerning; and, of course, it fits a pattern, a long-term pattern of efforts by China to obtain intellectual property and technology from the United States.
But we are in a different situation now. And so we have an opportunity to come up with a strategy that is focused on meeting these new challenges, not simply trying to avoid more harm.
I think competition works well when it is driving innovation, and obviously also can work well to control costs.
