This expansion of authority should not be viewed by anyone as a loosening of financial feasibility standards at the RUS. Simply put, if there is not a reasonable likelihood of repayment, the loan should not be made. That is how the RUS and the REA have operated for 65 years and that is how the agency should operate with this new authority.
