The entire Nation has been shocked and dismayed at what transpired earlier this week in New York and at the Pentagon in Northern Virginia and in Pennsylvania. These were attacks on the American values of liberty, diversity, and tolerance; the terrorists hate us for what we are and what we believe in. As we mourn our dead and pursue the attackers, we must strive to protect not only the American people, but also our American values. I am truly saddened when I hear of malicious and sometimes criminal acts that have been committed all around the country in the last couple of days against Americans who may be from the Mideast, or whose ancestors may have been from the Mideast, who may be of Arabic dissent, or of the Islamic faith--but who had nothing at all to do with these attacks.
