“I have been especially concerned about possible threats to the U.S. food supply and about our lack of protections and monitoring of our food. Project Alpha is a proactive approach using advanced technologies, expert systems, and thinking ``outside the box'' in order to predict, assess, and analyze terrorist threats. I am proud that Iowa State University and the National Animal Disease Center in Ames, IA, would play a key role in this project. I hope the committee will open to the use of funds in this bill, and I ask for the chairman's support for implementation of Project Alpha and its National Decision Assessment Immersion Center, with emphasis on protecting the U.S. food supply.”
