I acknowledge the doubts the Chairman has about the accuracy of the WIC budget request. Also, as the Chairman knows, I share his strong support for the School Lunch Program and for supplying commodities to it. I do have a letter from Secretary Glickman stating my amendment would not have an adverse effect on the School Lunch Program. I would be pleased to work with the Chairman and Senator Bumpers to obtain a more thorough understanding of the needed level of WIC funding and of the effects of the offset prior to conference on the bill.
