I urge Chinese authorities to engage in meaningful and direct dialogue with the Dalai Lama and his representatives without preconditions to lower tensions and resolve differences.

I believe that is part of the responsibility of the ambassador is to be there on the ground in China and to be an advocate for our interests.

I would not only be willing to welcome people of all backgrounds to the embassy, but also to travel to other parts of the country to meet with them as well.
