Neil Abercrombie: “I consider the gentleman from California [Mr. Rohrabacher] to be my good friend. Now that is said on this floor probably…”

On the recordMarch 3, 1994
I consider the gentleman from California [Mr. Rohrabacher] to be my good friend. Now that is said on this floor probably more often than not, and maybe it is thought to be a rhetorical flourish, but in this instance I think the gentleman from California [Mr. Rohrabacher] would agree that indeed we are friends and that I urged him today, again and again as a friend, because I know him as someone who has stood up for civil rights, as someone who has stood up for human rights and someone who values a single standard of conduct across this world where human rights are concerned, but I urged him to withdraw this amendment because it is not worthy of the person that I know as Dana Rohrabacher. This is not the time to start a contemporary Schindler's List, and that is what this amendment is.
