Now these costs are likely to be at least $500 billion and perhaps close to $1 trillion, unquote. Total military spending on operations in Afghanistan and Iraq from 2001 through this September 2005 is $252 billion according to Steve Kosiak with the Center For Strategic and Budgetary Assessments. Spending on non military aid in these missions at the same time period is $27 billion in addition to the $252 billion. The Congressional Budget Office in January estimated that between the fiscal year 2006 and 2015, the costs of supporting these operations could total $393 billion.
