We cannot wait for every damaged road, utility pole, harbor and public facility to be assigned a dollar value before asking the federal government to act.

Pat Saiki’s six decades of public service and her pioneering example for young women and Asian Americans in Hawaiʻi and across the U.S., combine to form both a lasting, inspiring legacy and a high bar for all of us who serve the public.

State, county, utility and emergency personnel are working around the clock, but the scale and urgency of these impacts exceed what Hawaiʻi can address alone.

I urge the public to support Ho‘opono Services for the Blind and its mission to raise awareness of the white cane and its significance.
